"After graduate school I found myself caught in between three schools: One was my desire to write and create popular music. A music that originally drew me to the guitar. A music that most people can relate to; The second was my interest in the classic guitar. For its interesting harmonies, its developing themes, use of dynamics and seemingly endless, musical obstacles to overcome, classical music is truly a limitless art form; The third was my newest desire, to be able to improvise like the prominent jazz players of the 20th century and beyond. To be able to possess the freedom technically and intellectually to improvise "in the moment." So, with that being said, the motivation for doing this particular recording was my interest in experimenting with these influences simultaneously.
For this recording, using my miscellaneous influences as a foundation, I self-imposed the following restrictions: fingerstyle arrangements with various techniques, rhythms and harmonies, composed in a popular style, with vocals. All determined from a desire to see what kind of results I could get from just one guitar and a voice. The overall concept being that: any musical idea, so long as it is repeated enough, will be perceived as popular music.
WHERE DO I GO NOW is the first recording in what will, hopefully, be many recordings developing all of my influences into a popular style format."
