ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: SONGS ON ALBUM:

Chris Loggins, who regularly plays the intimate venues around southern Arkansas, has been called one of "the best undiscovered talents in the region."

In August 2003, Chris returned to his hometown of El Dorado, Arkansas and stripped his sound down to its basics: Voice and Guitar.
He strove for purity and present moment awareness.

Music critic Roderick Harrington called Chris Loggins "the conduit through which something mystical and magical flows."

His new CD, "Thirty Years" was released on November 1, 2005. It features a full band.

Chris Loggins-"Thirty Years".
Artist: Chris Loggins   4 out of 4 stars
CD: Thirty Years
5 Star Rating: ****4 Stars!

It's sort of a predicament when you attempt to classify the work of singer/songwriter, Chris Loggins. Americana, Roots/Blues, Rock? Your guess is as good as mine! I do know this...this fine young lyricist puts out very good music.

For this offering, he enlisted the help of several talented musicians, and though I've heard Chris perform as a solo, in a duo, as well as many different configurations at jams...this is the first time I've seen what he can do with a competent band behind him.

The backing musicians on this CD are solid performers, and it certainly shows in the final product. Hokie Gjertsen, on guitar, Mark Toombs with drums, Monroe Hill on Bass, and Brett Traylor on keyboards & pedal steel, did an excellent job. Micky Davis also contributed on Cello. The Brass Tacks, as they called themselves for this endeavor, rounded out & enriched the typical "Loggins" sound.

The selections run the gamut of styles... with Dust, Miracle & Three Days hovering somewhere between Americana/Country and Blues/Rock...intoxicating rythm work & powerful vocals. Brass Tacks is a straight out burner from the word go, hailing back to a simpler style of rock. Creatures, is pure country complete with pedal steel, while Hoffman is taken from Loggins' experiences in California and has a campy, light-hearted feel to it.

Bee, Satori, and Exile, are offerings of a different sort, displaying the tender, contemplative, and introspective aspects of this songwriter while showing his ability to delve into various areas of the human condition.

The lyrics are nothing short of amazing, showing traces of influence from Dylan, Waites, Dixon, and even Johnny Cash. Loggins seems to meld them all together, and the end result is satisfying, to say the least.

There are layers to this young man, and despite his age...an "old" soul within him. He has the uncanny ability to "connect" with his audiences on an emotional level and that echoes in his recordings as well. His first offering consisted of acoustic covers & originals, and while it certainly was good...Thirty Years shows a maturation and growth that is remarkable when compared to his earlier songs.

A good outing for Chris Loggins on this one...I give it 4 Stars simply because I believe we haven't seen the last, nor the best, from this artist!
